John Clarke, CTO & Technologist

Who is John Clarke?

At heart I'm a Technologist; I discovered computers at a young age and was blown away by that by creating software I could control them. Mostly I made them do trivial things, but eventually I realised that this power allowed me to solve problems for myself and others.

Over the past 35 years I've persued this passion professionally, first as a developer and architect working on large and complex computer systems, and then as a leader working to empower teams to do more than they thought possible.

When I'm not getting excited about technology with my teams, you can find me enjoying music and 'geek culture', sailing, kayaking or enjoying motorsport.

My manifesto

  • Concentrate on what adds the most value
  • Hypothesis is a good start, but gain proof as quickly as possible
  • If a task feels like toil, if it has to be done repeatedly, invest the effort to automate it.
  • Good enough is usually enough
  • Stopping is always an option
